Tiny Tinas Wonderlands im Test: Der Borderlands

Since the announcement in the last June, not even a year has passed and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is already available. Thus, the developers of Gearbox Software of their strategy remain faithful, not to elapse between the announcement and the release too much time, as has already been proven at Borderlands 3. The latest Loot shooter of the Texan Studio of Randy Pitchford has a fairly long prehistory, which already withdraws almost ten years.

The basic idea of the game was already created during the development of Borderlands 2 and finally caught in the much praised DLC “Tiny Tinas attack on the dragon festival”. In it, the player experienced adventures from Tiny Tina, who entangled the Borderlands heroes in a battle “Bunkers and Badasses” and thus catapulted into a D & D-like fantasy roleplay. Not only the players, but also the developers had so much fun with this basic concept that they absolutely wanted to make their own game out. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (Buy Now 53.99 €) was born.

And so it happens that as a player we are again involved in a Tiny Tinas Pen & Paper games. Together with the two stranded space adventurers Valentine and freezing, the chaotic game manager takes us into their wondered fantasy world, the so-called Wonderlands. A world of magical creatures, a diamond two horn as a beloved Queen of the Empire and the evil Dragenlord as ubiquitous opponent. Our hero embodies the so-called destiny charm in this world, which is helped to defeat the evil. That sounds like a typical 08/15 fantasy story and that’s basically too.

In the realm of Queen Arschgaul

Although the Wonderlands of Tina do not extend over several planets, as the game world of Borderlands 3. Nevertheless, a lot of variety is offered. The individual, sometimes pretty big Level, a wide range of fantastic environments. Be it a mysterious Mush forest, a terrified area or other unusual landscapes that we do not want to anticipate here. In the areas there is as usual to discover any amount. Anyone who explores the game world away from the main paths is rewarded with hidden boxes, mysterious marbles and interesting records. Side quests also have to be completed in most areas.

Mushroom lover and wizard

Unlike in the main parts of the series usual, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands does not put on a prefabricated cast of playable characters. In the sense of the underlying Pen & Paper theme, we create our own hero at the start of the game. These can not only be very customized with a variety of options, they are also fully worn designs with colorful colors, wild compilations of body features and appearance. More important than the optical exterior is at the beginning but the choice of the class. Six different ways are available to choose from the common fantasy scheme of warriors, rogues and magicians.

Each class has unfortunately only a single talent tree, in which skill points can be invested by step climbs. Thus, the skill system is no longer as diverse as it was still the case in Borderlands 3. After all, we can choose a secondary class from a certain point in the game, which doubles our possibilities again. In addition, we may distribute attribute points for the first time. In the level-up, in addition to a skill point, we also get so-called hero points, with which we increase values such as strength, intelligence and skill. A little, the developers also counteract the lack of unlockable skills through the magic system. Magical skills are looted and equipped in the form of books. It can only be a book, and thus a spell, but after all you have a lot of choice and thus corresponding design options.
